Samuel Lalancette specializes in intellectual property as well as in commercial and corporate law. He provides strategic advice for his clients regarding the protection, monetization, and defence of their intellectual property assets, including trademarks, copyright, patents, industrial designs, trade secrets, and domain names. He also assists and provides legal advice to companies in various industries with their day-to-day operations and in all stages of their development, including in the context of mergers and acquisitions. He additionally advises regarding Canadian privacy and related laws.

Prior to joining Spiegel Sohmer, Samuel articled with a Montreal firm well known for its expertise in intellectual property. He subsequently practiced on his own in intellectual property as well as in commercial and corporate law, and later with a Montreal firm specializing in commercial litigation and dispute resolution. He has represented clients before all levels of Quebec provincial courts, the Federal Court, and the Supreme Court of Canada. Prior to his articling, he also worked in the legal departments of two multinational companies, one in the pharmaceutical industry and the other providing non-destructive testing technologies. His years of professional experience led him to work in the United Kingdom for several months and to acquire broad experience on varied commercial issues.
